The Focus of this guide is not me or my struggles, but rather YOU and YOUR RECOVERY. I know what a dark place bulimia can take you to. I may not know you personally, but I DO KNOW EXACTLY what you are going through. I went through it too. I had purging down to a science. I purged wherever I could, whenever I could, and I did not really care about how I hurt my body. I purged up to 15 times a day on some days in my worst year. My eyes would puff up, and my throat would swell up to the point that it was difficult to talk. My knuckles and my throat were constantly filled with scratches. After the 8th year I tried really hard to stop. But when I tried keeping food down I had such terrible pain in my stomach, that all I could do was lie on the cold bathroom floor and pray that the pain would go away. My teeth became so discolored and eroded that I was ashamed to smile. I felt dizzy and exhausted most of the time. Every time I binged, I felt a nervous tension inside my whole being. When I ate, it felt as if a grizzly was looking over my shoulder and by gobbling everything up I was eluding his attack. This tension escalated through the years until it became so unbearable that I had to do something. I dreaded going anywhere where people would see me eat. Family dinners became so agonizing and distressing, that I tried to avoid them at all cost. I became very aloof and had difficulty focusing on any given task. I felt alone, and scared and I knew that it was time I did something, so I began to search for answers. I had learned to trust my intuition, so I would embrace that which I felt drawn to. After years of introspection and research, with the help of my husband, I made important lifestyle changes, and was finally able to free myself of the cycle that kept me a prisoner in my own body for so many years. I believe that if we follow our intuition we will always be guided in the direction that is right for us, at any particular point in our lives. Today, I feel very fortunate that I once suffered from bulimia. It was this challenge that gave me the opportunity to learn so much about how our diet effects our bodies, our environment, and our planet. It is this challenge that allowed me to genuinely understand HOW to live a peaceful and harmonious lifestyle, FREE of suffering. ? Illness is a blessing in disguise. ?
